PRESENTA UNA NUEVA EDICIÓN ALREDEDOR DE LA SERIE BURNOUT

Las piezas de la colección Burnout son un estudio formal de la entropía expresada a través de la degradación secuencial de un molde de madera mediante el proceso de vidrio soplado. Los artesanos soplan repetidamente el vidrio fundido en un molde de madera contrachapada permitiendo que se encienda con cada forma que crean. El cambio de forma que se produce al quemar el molde deja un patrón único en cada pieza soplada a mano.
«En cierto modo, la fabricación de vidrio es un proceso invisible porque los objetos finales suelen estar completamente alejados estéticamente de las fuerzas que contribuyeron a su creación. Con Burnout, queríamos diseñar una pieza que pudiera retener y revelar el proceso de fabricación del vidrio a través de su forma, mucho después de que el propio vidrio se enfriara”.

Esculturas y obras bidimensionales realizadas en adobe, minerales, barro y estructuras metálicas constituyen un mundo que emerge de la historia y la memoria; y que navega entre lo contemporáneo, lo arcaico, la tradición y el folklore, incluyendo narrativas de la visión del mundo mesoamericano, la política antropológica y la arqueología.
La preocupación de Randall Weeks por los conceptos de tiempo, historia e ideología, adopta matices más figurativos en su obra escultórica, donde revela sus referencias inmediatas: el constructivismo ruso, Vladimir Tatlin, Matías Goeritz y la cultura popular.

PRESENTS A NEW EDITION AROUND THE BURNOUT SERIES

Burnout sculptural vessels are a formal study of entropy as expressed through sequential degradation of a wood mold by the glass blowing process. Artisans repeatedly blow the molten glass into a plywood mold allowing it to ignite with each form they create. The change in shape that results from burning the mold leaves a unique pattern on each hand-blown piece. 

“In a way, glass making is an invisible process because the finished objects are often completely aesthetically distant from the forces that contributed to its creation. With Burnout, we wanted to design a piece that could retain and reveal the glass-making process through its form, long after the glass itself is cooled”.

CONTEXTUAL ART

Sculptures and two-dimensional works made of adobe, mineral substrates, mud, and metal structures constitute a world that emerges from history and memory and that navigates between contemporary, archaic, tradition, and folklore including narratives from the Mesoamerican worldview, anthropology Politics, and archeology.

Randall Weeks’ concern about the concepts of time, history, and ideology adopts more figurative nuances in his sculptural work where he reveals his immediate references: Russian constructivism and Vladimir Tatlin, Matías Goeritz, and popular culture.
